Thank you to AMA Chicago for inviting me to share about Creative Digital Collaboration Trends.
A few key takeaways:
- Exercise Vuja de; take intentional action to look at something familiar and see it in an entirely new lens
- Change is accelerating and is never going to be slower than it is today. What are you doing today to prepare for future possibilities?
- You don’t need to be a technologist to watch and explore new technology. It’s not about a single technology or being an expert. Think about what’s possible at the intersection of multiple technologies. Innovation is about connecting a lot of dots in new and imaginative ways.
- Don’t be judge-y when you imagine the future. It hasn’t happened yet so there can’t be wrong answers. What do I think is impossible right now? Could it be possible in 5 years? 10 years? 30 years? Making time to imagine the future isn’t about perfect predictions, it’s about preparation.
- The best and most effective digital collaboration is always about people first! Consider their context, strive for inclusion, and create a safe space! You can engineer an environment for serendipity.
- Consider your desired outcome – why are you bringing the people together? What do you want to accomplish?
- Challenge assumptions. Do you really need another meeting? How can you leverage asynchronous collaboration to achieve your goal with less real time meetings?
- Human collaboration with intelligent machines is the future of digital collaboration. Instead of asking if AI is going to take your job, ask if there is an AI that can take parts of your job that you don’t want to do.
